How to enable user notifications for password resets, account unlocks, and password changes in ADSelfService Plus
Objective
This article explains how to configure email, SMS, and push notifications in ADSelfService Plus to alert users whenever a password reset, account unlock, or password change is performed. ADSelfService Plus' notification feature enhances account security by keeping users informed of actions taken on their accounts and helping them detect unauthorized activity.
Prerequisites
You need administrative privileges in the ADSelfService Plus portal.
Ensure the mail server, SMS gateway, and push notification settings are preconfigured in ADSelfService Plus for the desired notification channels.
Steps to enable user notifications for self-service actions
Log in to the ADSelfService Plus admin portal.
Navigate to Configuration > Self-Service > Policy Configuration.
Click the Advanced icon next to the policy that includes the users to whom you want to send notifications.
Navigate to the Notification tab.
For the Reset Password, Unlock Account, and Change Password options, select the desired notification methods: email, SMS, or push notifications (via the ADSelfService Plus mobile app).
Modify the Message field with your preferred notification content. You can use macros to personalize the messages with user-specific details.
Click OK, then confirm by clicking Yes in the dialog box to apply the changes to all users associated with the policy.
Validation and confirmation
Perform a test self-service action (e.g., a password reset or account unlock) for a user under the modified policy.
Confirm that the user receives an email, SMS, or push notification about the action.
If necessary, check the ADSelfService Plus report (Password/Account Expiry Notifications Delivery Report) for the notification delivery status.
