Error: Your password has expired. Please contact your administrator

Issue description   

Users encounter the error message "Your password has expired. Please contact your administrator" when trying to log in to ADSelfService Plus with an incorrect password while their Active Directory (AD) password has already expired.

By default, ADSelfService Plus prompts users to change expired passwords during login. However, if the entered password is incorrect, the password change prompt is not triggered, and the user sees this error message instead.

Possible causes   

  • The user entered an incorrect password instead of their last known expired password.

Resolution  

  1. Instruct the user to log in to the ADSelfService Plus portal using their last known expired password (not a new or incorrect one).
  2. If the password is correct but expired, ADSelfService Plus will prompt the user to change it.
  3. The user must complete the password change process to update their credentials.

Validation and confirmation 

If the issue persists:
  • Ask the user to reset their password using the self-service password reset feature.
  • Alternatively, perform a manual password reset from AD as an administrator.

  • Remind users to reset their passwords proactively before they expire using ADSelfService Plus password expiry notifications.
