Issue description

When installing or deploying the ADAudit Plus agent, the process may fail with the error message:
'RemCom.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

This error occurs when the RemCom.exe executable required for remote execution during agent deployment is missing, blocked, or removed from the ADAudit Plus installation directory. As a result, the product cannot initiate the remote operations needed to install the agent on the target machine.

Prerequisites

Before troubleshooting this issue, ensure the following:

  • Access to the ADAudit Plus installation directory on the ADAudit Plus server.

  • Administrator privileges on the server to check or replace missing files.

  • Ability to configure antivirus exclusions or whitelist paths.

Possible causes

  • The RemCom.exe file is missing from the ADAudit Plus \bin directory.

  • An antivirus or endpoint protection tool may have quarantined or removed RemCom.exe, falsely categorising it as a threat.

  • The file may have been accidentally deleted or corrupted.

 Resolution

  1. Navigate to the ADAudit Plus installation directory:
    <Installation-directory>\ManageEngine\ADAudit Plus\bin
and check whether RemCom.exe is present.

  2. If the file is missing, review your antivirus or security software logs to confirm whether it was quarantined or deleted.

  3. If the antivirus removed the file, configure your antivirus solution to trust, whitelist, or exclude RemCom.exe and the ADAudit Plus installation directory.

  4. Contact ADAudit Plus Support to obtain a new copy of the RemCom.exe file and place it back into the bin folder.

  5. Retry the agent installation once the file is restored.
