WMI fails on Windows 2003
I'd just like to share this with you. I've been having problems with WMI failures on some servers but not others. After troubleshooting this with Jason in the OpManager team we found that the reverse DNS was incorrect. After correcting the PTR record WMI was fine.
Example
Forward DNS
Server name: w2k3-server1
IP: 172.16.2.1
Reverse DNS
1.2.16.172.in-addr.arpa
Name: w2k3-server2 *
* The reverse DNS should resolve to w2k3-server1.
To correct this delete the incorrect PTR record
Run ipconfig /registerdns from the problem server
Then rediscover the device
WMI should then be fine.
