- Search Tool for Windows Service Monitors
I'm monitoring about 90 servers with OpManager at present. The other day someone asked about our DB2 licenses/installations. I have OpManager monitoring DB2 - DB2 Service on servers where it is installed.
I would like to be able to Query OpManager to return the Server Names, for installations of "XXXXXXX" Windows Service. That would be very helpful in telling us if we could install it on another server, (based on our # licenses) and whether we had an installation somewhere that has been forgotten about, and perhaps in need of removal.
- Service Dependency Monitor
- To adequately monitor our Exchange server(s), I need to know whether DHCP server is running or not on MAIL1, if it is not I do not want to get a notification from OpManager. Instead I want OpManager to check MAIL2 to see if DHCP Server is running. If it is, I don't need to get a notification. Or if this is a change from "where" this single service is running (ie, last interval it was running on MAIL1), I might want a custom notification that I can edit (not the built-in service down/up notification that OpManager does now).
Now if DHCP Server service is not running on MAIL1 or MAIL2, .. now I want an email letting me know that service is down. Because I want the parameters of that single service monitor, to look on two servers, and the instance of the service running on either, means.. my service is running. By the way I'd like the option to check up to 4 servers for the instance of a service (Win 2003 clusters support 4 node clusters).
At the core of this issue is I need to monitor a Cluster. But that doesn't have to cause any hardship for OpManager development. Because I can monitor my hardware-based Load Balancing Clusters, Fail-Over clusters etc., just by having the flexibility of being able to monitor a single service, on up to four different servers. I can't do that now, as OpManager deals with the absense of the service running on one of the servers, as a problem. I don't want to break what works for other servers, which is Escalation notifications.
I keep asking for this one, but it's only because I frequently face problems with the limitation of not being able to do this.
