weblogic 9 monitor and attributes ?

This is a question about adding attributes for a WebLogic 9 monitor.
I can successfully create a WebLogic 9 monitor and get a green status for this WebLogic monitor, with the default response time display, but want better information, such as threads, user sessions, and so.
Here is what I get when I select "Add Custom Attributes":
"
Error ocurred while connecting to the agent at host <hostname> and port 7001. Please try again.
Monitors > WebLogic Server > <hostname>_WEBLOGIC-server_7001 > Add Attributes
"
I saw some simlar posts, but with no real answer (at least for me)
I looked into the online help on how to add w WebLogic monitor and http://manageengine.adventnet.com/products/applications_manager/troubleshoot.html#m7
One thing I noticed, I always have this green warning, not sure if this can be related:
"
Data Collection in progress.Please wait till the next poll interval
"
I have 4 WebLogic monitors in this evaluation copy of AppManager (had 6 previously)
I do not see any trace of the AppManager monitoring server ip address in the wls logs
<some-path>/bin/startWebLogic.sh has the following defined:
-Dweblogic.disableMBeanAuthorization=true -Dweblogic.management.anonymousAdminLookupEnabled=true
Multi tiers environment, but:
- The WebLogic app server can reach the monitoring server on tcp port 9090 for AppManager
- The monitoring server can reach the WebLogic app sever on tcp port 7001
- There is some tcp traffic (but nothing above) between the WebLogic app server and the AppManager monitoring server, tcp port 9090 and for example tcp port 38507
Anything else needed for AppManager to communicate with AppManager ?
How can I proceed to monitor WebLogic JVM threads, heap size, user sessions ?
