VDI environment - VMs and thin clients/dumb terminals - how do you audit this?

Hi,

I am doing a hardware audit at our company and I need some advice on how to audit all the approx. 100 employees VMs and thin clients.  I am new to the VDI environment, so I am still learning how all this works :)

Every employee has a thin client on their desk and they have their own VM which is hosted on the Server downstairs.  For example, I have a VM called NatalieVM1 and I have a thin client with an asset tag of 00001.  Every day, I log into my NatalieVM1enviroment using my thin client 00001 as a dumb terminal.

If I was to scan my VM on SDP, it would come up as NatalieVM1 and the details of the server it is being hosted on.  I expected (naively) that it would show me the VM details of NatalieVM1 and the thin client details which is being used -– however, this isn’t the case.  So, does that mean I would have to create an asset for the VM NatalieVM1(which I can scan) and then another asset for the Thin Client 00001 (which I can’t scan so I would manually put this into the SDP system)?  I would then have to build a relationship between them both?

What would happen if I then use another thin client (ie 00002) to show me my environment of NatalieVM1?  How would SDP show me that I have no used another thin client?

Any thoughts or advice on this would be great!
