Upgrade the version 8 to 9 of application manager

I have 4 applications, one of them is the Admin server and the others are the managed servers. If I want to upgrade to the new version (version 8 to 9), is necessary, first, to upgrade the admin server and them the managed servers? or Do not care about the order? Thanks for your help
