Unable to contact the MDM server from Android devices

If you are using MDM Cloud to manage devices running OS versions below Android 5.0 and these devices are unable to contact the MDM server for management related tasks and information, read this post for the resolution steps.

Cause:
Mobile Device Manager Plus makes use of TLS protocols for secure communication between the server and devices. We at Zoho have discontinued the use of TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 protocols with continued support for TLS 1.2 and above, for improved security. This update is necessary since the Early TLS protocols have vulnerabilities without viable solutions and do not meet the security standards anymore.

Android devices below OS version 5.0, by default use TLS 1.0 or TLS 1.1 to secure the communication. This means that the communication from these devices will not reach the MDM server.

Resolution:
The latest version of the ManageEngine MDM app (9.2.366.A) ensures the communication with the MDM server is secured with TLS 1.2. The device users must update the ManageEngine MDM app to the latest version from the Play Store to restore communication with the MDM server.

In case the issue is not resolved after updating the app, please reach out to our support team.
