Unable To Connect To DB From Remote System (Crystal Reports)

Unable To Connect To DB From Remote System (Crystal Reports)

Hello,

We followed the instructions below to attempt to connect to the OpMgr DB from Crystal reports.
If we are logged into the local OpMgr machine, we can access the DB. Unfortunately, we cannot access the DB from any remote server, such as the CR server.
Is this a limitation with the "root" user.
Can we add an additional user?

We're really going through all of this because of the "availability reports" limitiation of only giving us the option to show 24 hrs or 8am to 8pm.
We would like to report availability from 7:30am to 5pm.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Murray

I am sorry you are not happy with these reports. I can give you some details on integration with Crystal Reports.

You need to know the MySql Drivers, DataSource Name.

1. OpManager Database and Drivers :

To integrate with Crystal Reports, you need to download the MySql Drivers. Download the latest version MySQL Connector / ODBC 3.51 from the URL

http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/3.51.html

2. Create a DataSource Name.

You can create a Data Source Name to easily connect from Crystal Reports.

* Click on the Start Menu and select Settings Control Panel
* From the Administrative Tools section click on Data Sources (OODBC
* Clicking on the Data Sources will invoke the OODBCData Source Administrator Console
* Click on Add to create a new Data Source Name for OpManager database
* Select the MMySQLOODBC3.51 Driver the list of database driver and Click Finish.

Note: The MMySQLDriver will be listed only if you have installed the driver as mentioned earlier.

Clicking on Finish invokes the Add Data Source Name configuration.

In the Login Tab

* Data Source Name: opmanager

You can provide any unique name to identify OpManager database. Say if you want to identify based on region you can name it as oopmDB

* Description: oopmanagerdb

* Server: llocalhost

As the OpManager database is running on the same machine.
User: root
Password: There is no password set to access the OpManager database

* Database: Do not specify the database name for now. Well be doing this in the next step.

* Proceed to the next Connect Options tab and specify the port name the database is running. opmanager database runs on port 13306. Click on Test to check if the connection is working fine.
* Now move back to the Login tab and select the drop down box in the Database field

From the list of all databases running, select OpManager database and click Ok

You can follow the steps to integrate OpMOpManagerDBth Crystal Reports.

If you need more help on this, please do get back to me on support.opmanager.com and I will be more than happy to help you.

Thanks and regards

Vijay
