Trying to restore from backup after a failed upgrade attempt.

I was trying to upgrade my service desk install to the latest version, currently I am on linux build 9010, trying to stairstep to 9049 etc.

The upgrade failed so I am having to perform a restore.

 I took a full backup beforehand.

 The database is mysql.

 I am trying to follow the instructions here:

When I get to step 5 it says go to step 7, which I do.

 

Step 7 says start Manage Engine ServiceDesk Plus, and verify I am able to login, which I do, the console gets to here:

Server Started.
Please connect your client at http://localhost:8080

I can login to the website at that location, however If I close the console window the application shuts down. Is this normal ? 
I am unsure how to correctly restore the backup from this point.

Do I need to run through the setup wizard first?
Do I need to connect the database first?
