Wearables

Definition — What are Wearables?

Wearable smart devices, more commonly known as Wearables. It is any kind of electronic device designed to be worn on the user’s body. Such devices can take many different forms, including jewelry, accessories, medical devices, smartwatches, clothing, and more. Wearable technology is one of the fastest-advancing sectors of the wider technology industry. These wearable devices are used for tracking information on a real-time basis. Wearables use motion sensors that connect a person, helping them achieve goals such as staying fit and active, losing weight, being more organized, or tracking their overall mental and physical health. The healthcare industry is probably seeing the biggest benefit from wearable technology, they can be innovative solutions for healthcare problems. One of the wearable technology applications is designed to prevent diseases and maintenance of health. The performance of fall detection using wearable devices has already achieved considerable good results. For example, one study developed a solution to recognize walking and activities, used a genetic algorithm and two triaxle accelerometer bracelets to detect walking patterns that could lead to disruptive events, such as falling and seizure onset.

The wearable healthcare technology market is surging, and its maturation will put more wearable technology in the hands of consumers. According to wearable technology researchers, the health-based wearables in the US will grow at an annualized rate of 10% to surpass 120 million by 2023.
