Quality of Service

Definition — What is Quality of Service?

The acronym QoS stands for the technical term ‘Quality of Service’. In general, it is referred to as networking technologies and techniques, that manage data traffic to reduce packet loss, latency, and jitter on the network. QoS is required in organizations wherever there is network congestion. QoS has been a critical requirement for the WAN for years.

The internet is an indispensable resource for the great majority of organizations, considering the volume of operational activities with their execution associated with this service. There are many different ways in which we can ensure data integrity on the network. First, we need to understand what you need to prioritize, and what your bandwidth usage is against what you have available.

QoS (Quality of Service) allows you to manage the available network bandwidth and make sure that important network services are given priority over less important traffic, with the QoS professionals can change the way network packets are routed to the internet or other networks, allowing existing resources to be used more efficiently. Elements like Voice over IP (VoIP) need guaranteed bandwidth to function since interactive services are intolerant to delays or losses. QoS can help ensure that maximum call quality is delivered.
