Peopleware

Definition — What is Peopleware?

Peopleware refers to the work done by people in an IT system. In many cases, Peopleware forms a kind of "conceptual triangle" with hardware and software. Peopleware is sometimes considered a third aspect that takes into account the importance of humans in the computing process and a key part of providing various technical business models and other planning resources. Peopleware is business architecture applied to work process design. Therefore, it is for people who have a sound knowledge of the business that is being modeled.

Examples of Peopleware include individual people, project teams, computer engineers, website designers, and other IT specialists, such as database and network administrators. While Peopleware can mean many different things, however, it always refers to the people who develop or use computer systems. While the term may not be as widely used as “Hardware” or “Software,” Peopleware is an important part of computer technology. It is a good reminder that the role of people should not be overlooked by any business or organization. The term "Peopleware" was first coined by Peter G. Neuman in 1977.
