Gamification

Definition — What is Gamification?

Gamification is a popular business tool. It is the concept to integrate game design elements into non-game applications (business applications) that already exist. This improves user experience and participation. Businesses can easily implement to create innovative programs by weaving suitably fun features such as leaderboards and badges into an existing system.

When users participate and engage with your gamification initiative, they learn the best way to interact with your business, products, and services. Gamification also allows for more practical applications of tasks. Instead of simply reading about an activity or subject, users are participating in the learning process.

Games have the amazing ability to keep users engaged for a long time, build relationships and trust between users, and develop their creative potentials. Many people think Gamification is a branch of gaming, Upon hearing the term, it is a complete misconception. Gamification does not involve games. It is simply absorbing the fun elements in a game ( what we call Game Mechanics ) into business applications

A classic example of Gamification:

Nike has incorporated gamification into its app NikeFuel which enables users to track their physical activity. The game part of the app enables users to compete against each other in their daily amount of physical activity, all activities performed by users, and transcribe them into points.

After reaching a certain level, NikeFuel unlocks special trophies and rewards. All of this generates lots of motivation for Nike's customers

NikeFuel was a part of its vast Nike+community, in the five or so years it grew from 500,000 members to more than 18 million members. That's a definite win for the company in terms of spreading its message, obtaining consumer information, and growing their customer base.
