Cloud Computing

Definition — What is Cloud computing?

Cloud computing is also known as virtual server computing. Cloud computing refers to servers that are accessed over the Internet, and the software and databases that run on those servers. In simple terms, is the delivery of on-demand computing resources on a pay for use basis. Cloud servers are located in data centers all over the world. IT organizations or Company's rather than storing files, data ( like images, videos, documents, etc) on a hard drive or local storage device or mobile phone, they can secure the data on a cloud-based tool like "Zoho Docs".  This method makes the possibility for customers to access data from any device, any place as long as they have access to the Internet.

The "Cloud" is just a metaphor for the internet. There are three main types of cloud services:

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): In this model, a company rents the servers and storage they need from a cloud provider. They then use that cloud infrastructure to build their applications. It saves office space and large hardware investments. Additionally, it is easy to scale up (or down) and you only pay for what you use. Popular examples of the IaaS system include Amazon AWS, DigitalOcean, and Microsoft Azure

Platform as a Service (PaaS): PaaS enables the company with the advantage to access the developer tools. This allows the company to develop applications using Web-based tools so they run on systems software and hardware provided by the cloud. Example: Zoho Creator

Software as a Service (SaaS): In the SaaS model, users gain access to application software and databases, the cloud provider hosts the customer’s applications at their location. The customer accesses their applications over the internet. Rather than paying for and maintaining their own computing infrastructure, the customer takes advantage of subscription to the service on a pay per user basis. ManageEngine also has the SaaS-based variant of ServiceDesk Plus.
