Templates for technicians will not allow 1 field to be added

I have a field I have created in the requests form and when I attempt to add it to a technician template, it puts it on the form and allows me to save it but then when I go out and back in, it is back in the "Drag and Drop" area. I have empty fields in the form which I can drop it into but it just won't stay in there!
On the same template when I go to the requester tab it has greyed out all of the drag and drop fields so I cannot add them to the form at all.
All this is really frustrating, has anyone else seen these issues?
