tcp port based 'send-string/match response' monitoring
In converting my company from Sitescope to OpManager I didn't consider that OpManager might be missing a basic 'send-string/match response' type monitor.
We have OODLES of inhouse applications that we routinely need to check the health status of through a simple query/response on a tcp port.
hypothetical example:
connect to port 12345
send string "HELO HEALTHY?"
if server responds "YES" then everything is okay,
if server responds otherwise, consider that 'service down'
at the very least if OpManager can call a script (and allow me to provide it arguements like Port #, etc) and have the script return whether the service is up or not, that would work perfectly.
