System requirements for msp?
I've looked at the system requirements for Opmanager MSP (
here), and installed a demo. However my real world experience with the demo does not at all match the system requirements...
I'm testing it out on a network with over 600 nodes. 40 servers, 200 printers, 250 network devices, etc...
According to the system requirements, I need (4) 3 Ghz CPU and 4 GB memory for my probe. My current probe is running on a desktop pc with a 3 Ghz CPU and 512 MB memory, utilizing 450 MB memory and about 20% CPU time.
So obviously, something is wrong here. Adventnet told me on the phone that the requirements are so high to allow for future expansion and that if it ran ok with the system I had, there was no need to purchase anything larger. I don't know what kind of expansion they think will occur, but honestly that should be up to the customer specing the server. Their system requirements shouldn't be blown completely out of proportion.
So for people who've used MSP, my question is.. what do I _really_ need for a probe server. Does the probe start to require more CPU and memory after it's been installed for a while and has gathered a lot of data?
For Adventnet, I have more of a comment - Post the REAL system requirements, especially for the MSP version. When evaluating the product, I initially told my boss that the opmanager deployment would be $5000 more (per customer) than it should be, based on having to purchase a much faster server than appears necessary.
