Suggested New Features - does anyone else agree?
Hi, I have some feature requests - I'd be grateful if people reading this post could reply to confirm they also have an interest in these features. App Manager support - if you've already got these on the timescales then please advise roughly when they're expected for release:
1. Time profiles for thresholds.
- As an example, between 8am and 6pm our threshold for URL response times is 500ms. Between 6pm and 8am our overnight jobs run so we expect the threshold to increase to 5000ms. Without being able to switch between thresholds automatically on a schedule, this is not possible. You can mess about with warnings etc in the limits, but you then can't adhere to SLA's properly.
2. All health alerts should be able to be set at the monitor group level.
- Although you can do this at the moment, you then don't get the RCA in the email when it's done at group level. This makes the alert pretty useless. This is quite a problem - it makes the system very complex to manage as you either have to manually amend all monitors (we have hundreds), or overwrite all your monitor configs - this is really bad as it overwrites any customisations.
3. The 'copy over the other monitors' function - it's useful, but very confusing for new users.
- The screens don't clearly indicate what / where you are and what's about to happen. For example, it's easy to keep questioning why the list of monitors to apply to is missing the one you started with! There's nothing on the screen to show that you're working on a particular monitor anyway.
4. The backup functionality needs to be made slicker.
The scripts sort-of work, but it's a bit unreliable and often needs manual intervention. If you've got to do this during the night and it doesn't work - you've lost monitoring in the morning. For an enterprise level product this really should be made a lot smoother and easier to use. Administrators shouldn't really be using multiple batch files and the windows scheduler - particularly if you've got a scheduler built into the product already.
5. Put a 'Poll Now' button in please!
It's silly that you have to edit and update a monitor to force a poll.
6. Server Services list
- it's very difficult if you need to add something new to the list as there's no indication of what you've already got in the monitor and what's not being monitored.
7. If you change out a server's hardware but put it back with the same name, App Manager gets in a mess.
Is there a better way of app manager detecting a change like this - for example, if polling on WMI it pulls out the server serial number and bases it's uniqueness not only on whatever you do now, but on the server serial number too?
8. Please create a monitor type of WMI query.
This would allow administrators to create a myriad of monitors that interrogate whatever they need without having to call lots of VBS scripts.
The product is great, but needs a few little refinements to make it a truly enteprise product - given the price and existing features it represents excellent value for moneyu though. I think the above would be a great set of additions - 1 to 6 are musts, 7 and 8 would be useful.
