Steps to block the 'Upgrade to Windows 11' notification in Windows 10 systems.

Hey everyone,

This forum walks you through the steps to block the upgrade to Windows 11 notification for Windows 10 users. There are two methods to do so, as you'll find below:

Method 1

Disabling/Enabling the notification via patches

Step 1:
Navigate to Patch Mgmt > Patches > Supported Patches

Step 2:
Search for the required patch ID (as mentioned below) and deploy to the target systems.

107898 - Disable Windows 11 Notifications
107897 - Enable Windows 11 Notifications

Method 2

Block Windows 11 with Registry Editor

Step 1:

Open the Start Menu.

Step 2:

Type regedit.exe and select the Registry Editor search result.

Step 3:

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

Step 4:

Set the Dword TargetReleaseVersion to 1.

If the value does not exist, right-click on Windows Update, and select New > Dword (32-bit) Value.

Step 5:

Set the value of ProductVersion to Windows 10.

If the value does not exist, right-click on Windows Update, and select New > String Value.

Step 6:

Set the value of TargetReleaseVersionInfo to 21H2.
If the value does not exist, right-click on Windows Update, and select New > String Value.

Method 3

Blocking Windows 11 upgrade using Registry configuration in Endpoint Central

Step 1:
Navigate to Configurations -> Configuration -> Windows -> Registry -> Computer

Step 2:
Create the below configurations:

Header Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Sub-Key: Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value Name:TargetReleaseVersion
Value Data/Expression: 1

Header Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Sub-Key: Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
Data Type: REG_SZ
Value Name:TargetReleaseVersionInfo
Value Data/Expression:21H2

Header Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Sub-Key: Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
Data Type: REG_SZ
Value Name:ProductVersion
Value Data/Expression:Windows 10

Click the Add More Registry Settings to save a created configuration. A screenshot is attached below for reference.

Step 3:
Now save the above Registry Configuration and deploy it to the target machines.

Note: Windows Update won't offer the upgrade to Windows 10 version 22H1 or higher versions in this case. A feature upgrade will be enforced, once the set version is no longer supported. You may also modify the version regularly to get the latest Windows 10 feature upgrades, e.g. by setting the target version to 22H1 once it is released.

Cheers,
