SQL Cache Memory Alarm

SQL Cache Memory Alarm

Hi, I am trying to work out the correct thresholds for the alarms for our DB servers.  One alarm that has been occuring on a couple servers lately is the SQL Cache Memory, it appears to have a default setting of 2048 KB.

I am trying to find out more information on this counter and have found out that SQL Cache Memory is responsible for reserving memory for dynamic SQL statements, I havent been able to find out anything on recommended levels, how to modify the levels or how SQL Server sets this level.

Can anyone provide some information on the SQL Cache Memory counter and let me know how I can work out a correct sizing for our servers so I can correctly set the levels in Opmanager.

We use a mixture of SQL 2000, running on Server 2000, and SQL 2005, running on Server 2003.  The alarms have been occuring for both SQL versions.  On one server the alarm trips at 9:15am, and doesnt clear again until 7:45 am, the sizing ranges from 2048 KB to 2250 KB.

Any information that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt
