Software Inventory
while looking at all of the inventoried software there is on our network it shows several thousand different programs, for instance it shows each individual windows security fix, patch or update as a separate program.
is there any way perhaps to define a list of applications that belong or can be associated to another peice of software. For instance all of the XP updates would be part of or included with XP. They would not show as individual application but would rather show what is installed when you click on a OS in the software assets field.
I guess what I am asking is there anyway to effectively limit the amount of software in that list substantially without have to manually go thru and get rid of it each time. I don't even use it right know because currently it is unusable to me. To much time and effort has to go into it. Perhaps SD could automatically know what a patch for XP is and lable it such. that would be very helpful.
I am not advocating doing this for each and every peice of software on the web just the big ones MS, maybe linux.
