Software Deployment Configuration settings Reboot Policy: Allow User to skip Reboot...

Hi Guys & Gals,

I have a software deployment policy created to deploy some Adobe software. The reboot policy is set to allow users to skip the reboot process. However, if the users are not at their PC, when the package has completed deploying the software, the systems appear to still be rebooting.

Copied from the policy summary page (Showing the packages reboot policy):

Reboot Policy:

Allow user to skip Reboot [exclude servers]

Copied directly from the Install/Uninstall Status page for the system (Showing all applications were successfully installed and the time of installation):

Copied directly from the event log on the client (Showing that DCConfig.exe still rebooted the system, almost immediately after the package had completed installing the applications, contrary to the reboot policy set in the package):

Log Name:      System

Event ID:      1074

User:          SYSTEM

Computer:      pcname.domainname.local

Description:

The process C:Program FilesDesktopCentral_Agentdcconfig.exe (pcname) has initiated the restart of computer pcname on behalf of user NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM for the following reason: Legacy API shutdown

 Reason Code: 0x80070000

 Shutdown Type: restart

Comment: Desktop Central has installed critical Adobe updates and the computer needs to be rebooted.

The ? help page that is available when creating/editing these policies states:

Reboot Policy

http://fpgvs019:8020/images/dialogClose.gif

Do not Reboot - computer will not be rebooted after installation.

Force Reboot - Forces system reboot after the specified time, logged in user cannot stop the reboot process.

Force Shutdown - Forces system shutdown after the specified time, logged in user cannot stop the shutdown process.

Allow User to Skip Reboot - Prompts for reboot, logged in user can either allow, or delay the reboot process.

Allow User to Skip Shutdown - Prompts for Shutdown, logged in user can either allow, or delay the shutdown process.

"Allow User to Skip Reboot - Prompts for reboot, logged in user can either allow, or delay the reboot process."

This indicates that the user has to acknowledge the reboot request from DCconfig.exe, before it either reboots or postpones the reboot. However, this is not how the policy is behaving.

Also, we know that DCconfig.exe has initiated the reboot, incorrectly, on the policy I have created, as the event log also includes the customised message I entered into the policy.

If I am correct in identifying this policy not behaving as it should then this would be a major bug in the behaviour of DC.

As ever, I will upload logs once I have a case reference, and ignore the further reference uploading the logs will send me! ;-)
