Software Asset Management
I am currently designing an end to end process for Software Asset Management. This commences with the procurement of the license, as per SD+ workflow, lifecycle mgmt (i.e. Transferring, tracking, accounting, etc...) and retirement.
My question is how can I seamlessly link Purchase Orders, Software Assets and License information to workstations? More information follows and the attached file includes screen shots to assist.
I have attempted to utilise the in store and associate function from the asset state field to link the asset to a Workstation and this works. However when I view the scanned software view and look for the Workstation association to the license asset it does not appear, all licenses appear in the Purchased License Pool and the workstation previously linked appears in the list of unlicensed installations.
I have attempted to allocate a license to a workstation through the Scanned Software>software name (eg MS Office) and this also works however it will not allow for a specific license to be assigned to a specific workstation as it just pics one from the Purchased License pool. It is important for our cost centre management and linking back to the Financial Control system that the license purchased is recorded with the PO number and assigned to the workstation. If there is a way of assigning a specific license during the license allocation process from this screen it would solve my problem.
So in short I an seeking a way of linking the PO number with the License asset and the workstation ideally as part of the goods receipting process in the Purchase workflow. I will also need to reallocate the license assets to the store as pool licenses should a user no longer require them or should a workstation be retired and the license transferred to a new workstation.
By the way I am very impressed with this tool and see it has great potential to assist me with a centralised view to perform many essential tasks
