Slow smtp alerts

I've noticed that the smtp alerts are quiet slow to notify. I may have a device that is being polled every minute, but it can take anywhere from 5-30mins to receive the notification. This can be anonying when the issue is delt with, and the alert turns up 10 mins later. I've checked our smtp relay, no issues there, is there something I missed.

The monitoring interval for the server and the router i'm trialling it agaist is set to 1 min.

The notification profile is set to alert if the device misses on poll.

I'm running version 5.5
