ServiceDesk 5.5 Date Field Question

I have a question regarding custom date fields in the asset db on ServiceDesk 5.5. I created a custom field called "Returned to Government". It seems once you put a date in the field there is no way to clear it. Someone accidently put a date in but I don't want it there. Our only work around has been to delete the asset record and readd it.
