Service Desk Plus Performance Issues

We are new users to SDP, and are pretty happy with it overall, however we have noticed a few places where the system seems to take longer than normal (20 to 25 seconds) to respond, when a new incident is being saved, when closing a incident and when assigning techs and groups.  The db is a MSSQL 2008 r2 in a cluster with 32gb of ram and dual quad core procs. The front end server is running in a VM, with 6gb of ram on a Cisco UCS host with dual 6 core procs. 

Any thoughts on how to speed these processes up, or is it just because that is when the system is writing a lot of data and that is to be expected?
