Separate the bundled mysql server into a different server

This is probably already discussed and maybe answered. In this case please consider my question as an opportunity to update/verify either the product features or the development roadmap.

So, is it possible to separate the bundled mysql server into a different server? I saw the mysql-ds.xml file but i believe that just by changing the "localhost" many other things might break, like the "LOAD DATA INFILE" operation which should rather change to "LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE". Is that right or the application will adapt its operation based the SQL server declaration (localhost or not)? In either case is this type of horizontal scalability possible?
