Scanning PCs in OUs over WAN
Hi;
We are at a crisis point in our use of Service Desk Plus. I need to do a software audit on the PCs in the domain, but at this point I have the following problems:
SD+ 6008 is not picking up our OUs,
Cannot scan by OU for our PC assets [does not seem to be part of the product],
90% of PC assets are not in the corporate (my) office and are out on the WAN.
The WAN is of variable speed, none of them good.
About us:
We have a single forest, single domain 2003 native AD.
We have remote offices located in the UK (2), New Zealand (2), India (1), Australia (6), that are remote from the Corporate office.
Ideally I want to keep bandwidth down and gather data during the middle of the day at each office. I'll have the greatest chance at this time to scan the largest number of machines, desktops and laptops. However my lunchtime here is not lunchtime in NZ, or UK, nor in other parts of Aus.
Questions
How do I create a schedule of scans of PCs in each office to coincide with local lunchtimes?
How do I minimize bandwidth usage across the WAN?
Is there a means to scan a machine through a logon script (either batch or VBS method)? If so what is it?
How do I scan remote machines out on remote sites, not on the WAN, but connecting via VPN?
I need to get this done no later than the end of next week for reporting at end of month (July 2007). Any ideas how I am going to achieve this, without going to another product?
Many thanks
Andrew Martin
