"Scan this system" in Internet Explorer

"Scan this system" in Internet Explorer

I think I found out that that when one accesses ServiceDesk Plus OnDemand using Internet Explorer one can choose to "Scan this system." I'm assuming this is similar to the probe scan to get Asset information uploaded into the system.

"Scan this sytem" appears to use an extension/add-on within Internet Explorer, which would be great as it doesn't require a lot of configuration on the workstations part. I like this as we are a small shop. While I have been able to use a probe and have changed the workstations' settings to get that to work,I'm not a big fan of the modifications needed to get that to work.

I've tried running "Scan this system" several times on three separate computers, but no information is uploaded from the workstation to the ServiceDesk Plus OnDemand interface. Rather, one gets stuck indefinitely with the message "Please wait... updating with the latest scan" while the arrow icons circle continuously. I've let it run overnight in two cases and no information was uploaded into Assets in ServiceDesk Plus OnDemand.

One, can someone point me to the documentation about this feature as I cannot find it for SDP OnDemand?

Two, what else must be enable to allow a scan from within IE to work? ActiveX is enabled.

Thanks for any guidance you might provide.
