Resource Tag - Optional Column in asset list
This was mentioned a while ago - see
http://forums.manageengine.com/forumHome.do?forumGroupId=49000000002007&forumTopicId=49000002669603 and I was just wondering what was happening here? We would like to see an option to have a Resource Tag column appear in the main asset list.
Our Scenario - We are a school with a full windows environment and currently use our own ICT serial numbers for tracking our assets. For Workstations, these serial numbers are used as Computer Name which and picked up automatically by SD+ as the Workstation name. These serial numbers remain unique and unchanged for the entire life cycle of the asset.
However, we also have an Asset Location Tag (Resource Tag) based on Asset-type (AA), Asset-location (LLLL), Asset-Sublocation (nn). Eg DT-R340-01 is a Desktop in Room 340 and it's the 1st PC going clockwise from the door. This helps us pinpoint the exact location of a computer which may be used by hundreds of students.
We have Departments setup with each Room Number, but this doesn't give us the full picture when looking at the Group and we can't assign PCs to a specific user and the computer may be in a room with 30 other computers.
I know that I can do a search based on resource tag, but when I want to view the entire room list, it's very difficult to tell which one's which without clicking on each individual workstation.
The only work around at the moment is to generate a customized report then go back from there.
