Resource Capacity Allocation per Project / Change

Resource Capacity Allocation per Project / Change

Hi,

I would like to suggest an improvement to the Resource Management functionality in ServiceDesk Plus Projects/Change.

Currently, Resource Management allows us to see the workload and availability of each resource based on the tasks assigned to them.

However, it would be very useful to define the maximum capacity that a resource can dedicate to a specific project, either as a percentage or as hours per day/week.

For example:

  • User working capacity: 40 hours/week
  • Project A allocation: 50% - 20 hours/week
  • Project B allocation: 30% - 12 hours/week
  • Remaining capacity: 20% - 8 hours/week

If the tasks assigned to the user in Project A exceed 20 hours in that week, ServiceDesk Plus should highlight the resource as over-allocated for that project, even if the user's total working capacity of 40 hours has not been exceeded.

Ideally, when adding a resource to a project, we could define:

  • Allocation percentage, for example 50%
  • or Maximum hours per day/week
  • Start and end date of the allocation

Resource Management could then compare the scheduled task hours with the capacity allocated to that project and show:

  • Available capacity
  • Allocated capacity
  • Planned workload
  • Remaining capacity
  • Over-allocation

For example:

John Smith - Project A

Capacity: 20 h/week
Scheduled tasks: 26 h/week
Utilization: 130%
Over-allocation: 6 h

This would make the Resource Management module much more useful for organizations where technicians work on multiple projects and operational activities at the same time.

It would also be useful if the system could display a warning when a Project Manager assigns a task that exceeds the resource capacity allocated to the project.

Thank you for considering this feature
