reporting on software or hardware by company/department

I have been playing around with the asset management aspect.

We have a number of differnet P&L centres (companies) within the group and I want to be able to assign assets (hardware and software) to these units.

Im struggling to see how I can then view or report on these subsets of information either through the asset interface itself or by running existing or custom reports.

For example - when I scan wrkstns, I then assign these to a departmnet (Business unit). The information pulled back in the scans holds both Hardware and software. I can see with the hardware that I can write a custom report on the hardware by department, but this only seesm to report on the hardware aspect of the scan and does not correl;ate this to the software that resides on these workstations.

What I want to be able to view is a summary by department (company/company unit) that would show me any or all of the following.

Details of all workstations by department/company/unit -
Within this I need to be able to report on all workstations in that unit with either disk size of LT nn gb or RAM LT 512k or that dont have WInXp SP2 applie ?

Within the same subset of workstations in that department I would alos like to be able to see/report on
SUmmary of software across this departmnets wrkstatsions in terms of
versions of MS office installed or any other licencsed products.

Does this functionality exist within SDP - either its there already and I just dont relaise it, or if not can this granularity of reporting be achived through the custom reports and queries.
