Report customization

Report customization

Hi there.

We are nearing the end of our MSP edition trial and will be purchasing it this coming month, as we will be giving our customers free monitoring thrown in with certain support contracts, and chargeable for others etc.
But we are not ready to go live with it yet, as we still feel there are things that we need to have right before offering it to them.

We have two queries.

For example, it would be nice to have a bit of a "howto" on either editing the existing OpManager reports or on creating new ones.

As instead of how the reporting currently looks, i.e a summary of servers availability on one page, then drive space on another etc, we would like to be able to give our customers one report per server, which contains availability, disk utilisation, memory usage, other resource monitors etc, and include bar charts or pie charts etc, then another for printers and pages printed and toner levels, if the print supports it.
I think the ability to do custom reporting is a valuable one, as the standard reports just won't be good enough for everyone.

As the reports seem to have been created with Jasper reports, I have had a quick try at using Jasper iReports to open the reports in the design folder, but can't seem to edit them to get them to work, so was wondering if you have any workaround that we could maybe use.
I don't mind editing the necessary files to get the scheduled reports to work, but we'd just like to be able to design our own reports in addition to the included ones.

The other query is, will there be a future way to apply monitoring template settings to selected customers from the central server? as opposed to having to log into each remote probe to change certain settings?
Event log rules, monitoring intervals, resource monitors, downtime schedules, etc.

This is a enterprise product aimed at MSP's to monitor lots of customers, so I think it would be an important feature.
As some customers may not allow remote access to their network or want their firewalls config editing to allow a port through, so it would be good to have that control from the central server, so when the remote probes connect they pick up any new config settings.
It would also be of use to us in future for applying some standard monitoring parameters quickly to new installs or existing probes, rather than doing them site by site.

Maybe these things will be resolved with the next edition of the product, but we would like to get it working now with the current version 6.

I appreciate your comments on these.

Kind regards
Simon
