Regarding Device Alarms

All,

I'm new to OPMan so please excuse the barrage of posts, I am evaluating the program for potential purchase by comparing it to my current one. I end up with a lot of problems confusion and queries so I've spent hours configing and searching the kbase and forums.

I've noticed that when a device goes down, like say a FreeBSD box I have just did around 2am, it generates the appropriate alarm:

Device not responding: Probably down or busy

This alarm seems to stay in this state until the admin clears it. I did not get around to clearing the alarm until 2:45am, but the machine actually returned to an up state not 3 minutes or less after it became unreachable.

It makes sense to me that the alarm should have cleared on it's own, once the machine was polled again. For historical and reporting purposes keeping a log of the alarm is important for trend and problem tracking, but more often than not I've found myself looking at Alarms and realizing they are void b/c the device is reachable.

If this is a setting I've over looked, please direct me on the right path, as I do hate wild goose alarm chases.

thanks in advance,

Ryan Leach
