Hi,
Doing a few tasks to optimise our use of Opmanager, I found something strange and I was wondering why it happened.
I have a category of device, "Cameras", wich I want two people to be notified if their systems goes down.
I created the device category associated all the relevant devices to this category, then got to
- Quick Configuration Wizard,
- Add notification profiles to several devices,
- Picked correct profile (Note here that checkboxes instead of Radiobuttons would have been nice, now I have to do this twice because I want 2 ppl to get the notification. Anyway...)
- Selected correct item to notification
- All the time...
- I select "Assign to all device in category", choose "Camera" (Which is awsome, that's exactly what I need !)
I get "Result",
Cam01 - Profile successful added
Cam02 - Profile succesful added
and so on for the 40th or so remaining devices
All the device are reffered to with the Display name I gave them, Awsome, that's What I expected.
Now I do this for the other guy, and I set up one more time, and I set up one for myself to look at the actual results (Do they have too much alerts, what can I change, since they dont have access to Opmanager, I want to be proactive and see what issue they might have.)
After a few days, I correct the profiles or adjust setting, I'm happy to see that I can simply "Redo" the above steps with new settings and the olds one get overwrited (It is even possible to check nothing and have an empty "notification profile", that is strange, I thought this would delete the profile with no success)
Now everyone is happy but me, I still have the notifications when something goes wrong and I dont want to have these, so I got to
- Quick Configuration Wizard
- Delete associated notification profile
- Oops
When deleting a notification profile using the QCW, the list shows all the associated device to a selected notification profile. BUT, this in this list, the devices are named after the initial discovery name that opmanager found, be it IP address, full Dns name... But not the nice Cam01, Cam02, Cam03 I expected, now I must find every Ipaddress, or dnsname of these device... Not so Quick method.
More over, what I expected was to have exactly the same options that I had in the "Adding notification" where I could select a category and click remove, or a Business view.
(Funny factis, If I go back to "Add notification" and I select "Manualy group device", the devices are listed with their display names, not the Ipadress or dns name)
As a Workaround, I had previously used a "Debug_myname" notification profile to do the exact same thing, So I could remove all the associated device without thinking, but the last time I set these up was like 2 years ago and I forgot about this... For now I'll go thru all the device and remove the notification profile, but I was wondering if this was an "bug" or a "feature" of having the devices enumerated with their, say, "discovery names" instead of the display names.
