Promoting SD+ Configuration Through Different Environments

We are near going live with SD+ v6 however we have a few operational pre-requisites to have in place before doing so. One of these is the ability to promote system configuration through the different environments we have (DEV, TEST & LIVE).
Can you let me know how we can achieve this without affecting the core data within each environment?
