Problem with OPManager-MSP on VMWare Server

Problem with OPManager-MSP on VMWare Server

Hi,

We are evaluating the OPManager-MSP platform and installed it on a w2k3 as a quest on VMware Server. The OPManager-MPS collects data from remote probes via https.

During our evaluation we do not get a stable connection between the probes and the central OPManager MSP server. The OPM-MSP server sends a regular stream of email messages that probes are up and down. UP / Down messages from both probes have the same timestamp. So we assume that it has something to do with the server.

We are testing now with two probes, one remote probe and one in the same subnet as the OPM-MSP server. This problem effects both probes. We monitor the OPM-MSP server from an other SNMP-station for the availability ICMP an https (443) on an interval of every 60 sec. and a critical alarm trigger of 1 missed poll. (although no missing polls detected from here yet)

After changing some communication (xml) settings before and a Webex session last week with the supportengineers of Adventnet they suggested that the problems could be associated with the VMWare platform and therefore suggested to install it on a dedicated machine. This is not very convenient for us and costs us an extra machine so we are very interested in a solution running it on a guest of VMW Server. We therefore like to know if some other users are familuar with an issue like this.

Does someone else have (had) the same/simular problems?

Facts:
- Supermicro H8SSL-i Opteron mainboard
- AMD Opteron 180 2400Mhz 2MB Dual Core cpu
- Vmware running on w2k3 host
- Opmanager-MSP on w2k3 guest (same machine)
- updated the Broadcom nic-drivers (as was suggested before on this forum)
- only one Gbit nic (Broadcom) is in use

Hope somebody can help us with this issue.

Ashley Pietersen
