Problem starting ApplicationsManager one remote server

I installed ApplicationManager 6 beta on my Suse Linux 9.0
When I tried to run startApplicationManager.sh i get a error
DISPLAY variable is not set.
This is required for proper functioning of Applications Manager.
Kindly set this variable in the startApplicationsManager.sh file.
Example: export DISPLAY=<host>:0.0
in the script i uncommented the DISPLAY entry and put in the host name
of the remote server, but it does not work.
can you give me a hint in which direction i have to search ?
