Problem receiving traps (both unsolicited and configured)
Hi all!
I am using the Professional Edition of the evaluation version of OpManager 5.5 build 5503.
I am having some problems with receiving traps sent to my system. It is probably just some setting I have forgotten to set somewhere, but I have tried everything short of the jedi mind trick to get this to work, so I come to you to set me straight and (hopefully) tell me what I am doing wrong.
As I understand it, OpManager listens on port 162 (which can be altered by modifying trapport.conf in the conf dir). And whenever it receives a trap for which it has no Trap Processor defined, this trap is transferred to the 'Unsolicited Traps' area of the Alarms section.
- if I am wrong in any of this please tell me...
To test this product I have downloaded and installed it (obviously), and performed a discover operation, which turned out fine, ie. it found all the nodes I would expect it to find.
Then I have set up a couple of Trap Processors from a MIB file I have created (and also but in the mibs dir). Here I encountered the first problem:
- when loading the mib in the mib browser, it said that it could not load the mib file in c:\program. So it seems like spaces in directories is not supported?? - I then uninstalled and reinstalled everything in c:\adventnet\.... with no spaces in the dirs.
Then came my second problem:
- when specifying the Trap Processors and browsing for a notification, I get an error message 'Select an numeric OID'. I get this error message no matter when I choose to press the OK button.
To circumvent this, I can just type in the OID in the field (which I have done).
Now that I have set up a couple of Trap Processors I try sending a trap from a managed node to my server, but nothing happens. Nothing. .. well, something does happen, just not in OpManager. Using ethereal I have verified that the traps I send arrive on my server. I have also tried the mibbrowser which comes with the SNMP Agent Toolkit to verify that the traps arrive, which they do. And I have tried this using different ports also, but nothing seems to work.
What am I doing wrong? Have I missed something completely?
Thanks in advance, and I am sorry for the lengthy post.
