Port numbering on new switch is incorrect
Hi there,
I've just been playing around with the Switch Port Mapper as I've never properly used it before.
My development network consists of two Extreme Networks Summit switches and two Cisco 4948 switches.
For the Extreme switches, each switchport number (ifName) matches up to the Port No shown by OpUtils, for example ifName 1/1 equals Port No. 1, ifName 1/2 equals Port No. 2, and so on - which is just fine.
However for the Cisco 4948 switches they do not match up, an example of what I see on one of them is ifName Gi1/5 equals Port No. 5, ifName Gi1/6 equals Port No. 6, ifName Gi1/7 equals Port No. 8, ifName Gi1/8 equals Port No. 9 (it's somehow called Gi1/7 port number 8, and there is no Port 7!!)
Another example is on the other one where I have two Port 8s:
ifName Gi1/6 equals Port No. 6, ifName Gi1/7 equals Port No. 8, ifName Gi1/8 equals Port No. 8, ifName Gi1/9 equals Port No. 10.
Do you know what might cause this or what the fix is? I've tried deleting/re-adding the switches with no effect.
Attached an image to explain.
