Patch applications running in the background

If you came across the error, "Patch update delayed since the application is used by another process", we have some good news for you!

During the patch deployment refresh cycle, certain applications viz. Notepad++, CCleaner, Skype will still be running in the background. Hence, the patches just won't deploy to these applications.

When the aforementioned error shows up, should you have configured the setting to deploy the patches during startup, there might still be applications that are running in the background at the time of startup. The deployment fails again.

In such cases, the startup policy comes into picture once the machine starts. If the patch comes to installation within 15 minutes of startup, the corresponding background apps will be killed and the installation of the patches will be successful.
