OpManager Device Types/Services
I am testing OpManager to monitor our fleet of ATM (cash dispenser) machines and OpManager is the closest fit I have seen for our needs (I've tested 11 different products!). Each ATM has a number of "services" i.e. Card Reader, Dispenser,Receipt Printer etc. The OpManager Server view (icon with green service states) would be my preference.
Question 1
How can I add a new Device Category "ATM" that would mimic the Server category?
Question 2
Is it possible to have monitors that behave (have the same monitoring User Interface) as services? I have written an SNMP agent that runs on the ATM and My ideal would be to have them viewable as services.
Question 3 (last one!)
I assume that the service poller attempts to open a socket on the applicable port. Is this assumption correct? If so I guess I could adapt my ATM agent to listen on a number of new ports and only accept the socket connect if the linked "service/sub-system" is up. This would not offer any additional info merely a "ping" type check on the sub-system. I could then drill into the SNMP as a monitor to get the actual info. What do you think?
