Hi,
I'm actually testing DesktopCentral to see if this perfect-looking solution would be what we are looking for to manage our clients infrastructures.
I have read your forums and knowledge base (which is really great!) for a lot of things but I didn't found anything about old softwares and patches clean-up.
When deploying software you begin with downloading the software (of course), I will take for example : Firefox.
Right, you deploy Firefox 10.
A month later you have a new version, Firefox 11, you patch it.
At this time in your repository you have the installer of Firefox 10 and the patch 11.
But in the software template, Firefox 10 doesn't exist anymore, only 11 does.
Again, one more month later, Firefox 12 is available. Go patch.
So, in your repository, you have Firefox 10 installer, Firefox 11 patch and Firefox 12 patch.
This situation can be problematic at long term, because harddisk space isn't infinite (yet :) ).
I know this can be usefull to keep a software version even when a new version is available (because of infrastructure compatibilité for example).
My request is : can you add (or maybe it already exists) the possibility to purge old versions when you have installed the new version?
Something like when you are in Templates and you create a new package with the new version at the end of package creation it says "An old version of this program is in you repository, do you want to remove it?". That would be so great.
As english is not my native language, I hope you will understand what I mean.
Thanks.
Sylvain.
