Few questions (v11600):
Background:
We upgraded from v11600 from v10xxx and it initially seemed everything migrated over, however, the VM's were not showing up under Virtual or Server menus sections, only under Inventory | All Devices. ESX and VCenter the same. Removing ESX and VCenter and re-adding changed nothing. Support stated we needed to remove everything and then re-add just the VCenter to let the discovery. This worked ONLY after adding VCenter via the Settings | Add VCenter option... adding it under Virtual | Add VCenter had no effect accept adding the VCenter itself... no discovery of Virtual machines or ESX hosts.
1. How do we control which Virtual Nic discovery chooses to bind as the 'primary' interface for a VM. You can change the IP once discovered, but the DNS Name field doesn't update and on such devices there seems to be a breakage with certain operations like Windows Service Monitors (still fail with RPC errors even though WMI creds pass).
2. We created Types (Device Templates) for various flavors of Windows (2008R2, 2012R2, etc) which migrated over from v10. We had to remove all our VM's/ESX/VCenter systems as they were not being registered correctly... only showing up under Inventory | All Devices rather than recognized as proper type... example 'VirtualDevice' was not an option in the Category listing for a VM.
When we added the VCenter via the Settings option, all ESX Hosts and Windows VM's were automatically marked Type=Windows Vendor=Microsoft Categroy=Virtual Device. We updated the Type Templates for Windows 2012R2 and 2008R2 to be of category 'VirtualMachine', then went to each VM and changed the Type to the proper OS. This seems to randomly change, often to just 'Windows', but some of the 2012's are recognized as 'Windows 8'... others remain as we set.
We also noticed that after changing the type, the Monitors in the Device Type template are not applied (or overwrite) the existing 43 default templates. I probably and forceably add these selectively to groups of systems somewhere like we used to under the old Admin section, but I haven't gone looking for that yet.
How do we keep the VM's to maintain the settings we want them to?
3. We had a few VM's show up twice in the Virtual | Virtual Machines listing... each, one showing Power On, the other Off. Deleted the VM by clicking on the Powered off one and deleted, which cleared both from the list, but now can't figure out how to re-add. Rediscovery on the ESX Host doesn't seem to resolve. The deleted VM shows up on the ESX host | Virtual Machine tab, but you can't click on it and there doesn't seem an action option to pull.
