New notification rules system
The current notification system seems to be very limited because we cannot specify what requires a notification on our own. What I would like to see is a whole new notification system that lets us create our own notification rules. You could setup event codes to be generated by various activities in the system (request creation, modification, note added, etc.), which could be used to generate notifications for any number of system functions. That way, we could create notifications for things that matter to us, but everybody else could care less about.
Also, a filtering system should be applied to this to allow notifications to only be sent when certain criteria are met. For example, we could make it so that normal request creation notification get sent to all technicians, but requests lodged under one particular category only send notifications to one specific technician. Or, when a request is closed, you could choose to send a notification to the requester as well as a manager or another technician.
A system like this would allow a large amount of flexibility to admins for determining exactly who gets notified about what and why.
