Network Scan

Network Scan

Hello,

we've recently purchased SD and we love it so far. One of the big reasons why we chose SD over other Help Desk software was the network scanning feature in order to replace our dated way of inventorying workstations. Right now we're testing out the network scan focusing on one branch and we've encountered a few problems.

The lowdown : we set up all of our workstations ourselves so they are configured the same way! At first we had the error "Connection to RPC server in the workstation failed" ... we did some user forum searching and found an answer to that. We ran the command "netsh firewall set service RemoteAdmin" . This allowed us to scan a good portion of our workstations with in that branch. However, some of our other workstations we got an error message:

"Either access denied for the user or the remote DCOM option might be disabled in the workstation"

keep in mind that we set up our computers the exact same way running the exact same software!. We did more testing on the computers who got the above error; ie checked the admin password, and enabled DCOM. We followed these instructions;

Remote DCOM should be enabled in the target workstations to scan them in ServiceDesk Plus. Procedure to Enable DCOM in Windows XP Computers:

1. Select Start > Run
2. Type DCOMCNFG in the text field. Click OK.
3. Right Click on Component Services > Computers > My Computer. Click Properties
4. Choose the DEFAULT PROPERTIES tab
5. Check the check-box Enable Remote DCOM on this computer
6. Set the Default Authentication Level as DEFAULT. NONE also can be set.
7. Set the Default Impersomation Level as IMPERSONATE.
8. Now select the DEFAULT SECURITY tab.
9. Click the Edit Default button under Default Access Permission.
10. In the Frame that pops, click the ADD button and add "Everyone" with Allow Access permission.
11. Similarly, under the Default Launch Permission add "Everyone" with Allow Launch permission.
12. Click OK and now try scanning the workstation. In some computers the DCOM changes will be effective only if the workstation is re-booted.

... but it didnt fix the problem. Are there any other avenues we can take to try and solve this?? I think once we managed to scan all the workstations in this branch we can go ahead and scan the other branches network!!

All ideas are welcome!
