I wasn't involved in the original purchase of the product and have been told that part of the reason for our selection was being able to also use the product for asset management.
I've been working with the monitoring portion of the product, but our director wants to combine our current database of server details into the OpManager product in order to run reports on network metrics. The challenge I'm having is that there are more categories of information in our DB than in OpManager about server details -- and they are searchable.
I see the Device Notes area in OpManager, but that area is for relatively basic information and from what I understand it is not searchable.
Here's a real-life scenario of one thing we'd like to be able to do: Management asks for a report on how many servers we have. They want to know how many are physical, how many are virtual and perhaps some details about some servers, i.e., the CPU and memory, etc. What is a way we can record that information and how can we recall it when necessary--like a report?
I see the strength of the monitoring tool in OpManager, but I guess I don't see that with the asset management portion.
