MS SQL, SDP, Virtual Server & Performance issues
Hi all,
Basically I've been thrown into the deepend with SDP, as the person who setup the system, administrated it etc left rather quickly with very little knowledge being passed on. So I've been tasked with taking up the reins as it were. Hence my previous posts may seem like basic things to most :o)
We're currently having the odd performance issues with SDP v7.0.20. Specifically, clients receiving delays while retrieving data from the database & the occasional "crash" of the server at which point we need to restart the service to regain the system.
We have both the application & the database running from the same virtual server, the spec of which is -
Operating System: - Microsoft(R) Windows 2003R2 Datacenter Edition
Manufacturer : - VMware, Inc.
Model : - VMware Virtual Platform
Number Of Processors : - 1
Processor Description : - Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5355 @ 2.66GHz
Total RAM : - 3840MB
The database we're using is MS SQL v2005.
We have 50 technicians, most of which are using the system all the time. We support approx 8,000 users - thankfully not all are using it at the same time. But the potential is that the system could get heavily loaded.
Additionally, our current asset database is quite large & comprehensive - we have at the moment just over 20,000 assets/nodes.
While the system is being used for normal day to day activity, frequently a couple of technicians can be running reports some quite large.
In addition the technicians are based on different geographical sites, and we are all accessing the client via IE6.
Should the above specification be enough to run SDP for our requirements?
Or as we intend to use the system a lot more fully in the future & what it was designed for, using change management, increasing the solutions etc etc.
Are there any recommendations you could make with regards to our current setup & improve stability?
Thanks for your help,
